Facilities

Research Institute of Molecular Genetics (General Research Center, Life Sciences Section on Campus)

The Research Institute of Molecular Genetics was founded on the Monobe Campus in April 1993 to promote education and research on recombinant DNA technology and other genetic fields. In the spring of 1996, a new three story building (the total floor space,1,523 m2) was constructed. Various kinds of equipment for genetic science are provided in the Institute, and these are opened to members of Kochi University.
Important missions of the Institute are to carry out high quality education and research on basic molecular biology and the wide range of its application in closer cooperation with the Faculty of Agriculture in the Monobe Campus, the Faculties in the Asakura Campus. Molecular analyses of nucleic acids, proteins, and enzymes are carried out using gene manipulation techniques. Research aims of the Institute are the propagation of organisms which have new genetic functions and the development of new methods for genetic engineering as well as basic research in molecular biology of microorganisms, animals, and plants. It was renamed as the facilities of Life Sciences Section in General Research Center, Kochi University on April 1st, 2006.
