Overview

Clinical Oncology and Minimally Invasive Surgery is a multidisciplinary division of the Department of Surgery. It was established in 2012 to keep pace with advancing medical technologies and increasing needs of patients.

Clinical Oncology and Minimally Invasive Surgery staff collaborate with Surgery I staff to achieve our specific goals: to offer optimal chemotherapeutic treatment options for patients with cancers of the gastrointestinal tract; to maintain the safety of laparoscopic and endoscopic surgery for patients and surgeons; and to provide advanced surgical treatment options. Robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery started in 2014 for colorectal cancer and 2015 for gastric cancer. To date (June 2015), 14 patients with colorectal cancer and 5 patients with gastric cancer have been successfully treated with robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery.

Research areas

We are participating in clinical trials on the safety and efficacy of chemotherapy for colorectal cancer and gastric cancer, and performing trials to assess the safety of robotic surgery.
