Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Kochi Medical School is established in April 2019 sponsored by Kochi Prefecture.

Our mission is to improve the mental wellbeing of children and their families in Kochi.

Our objectives are to:

• provide appropriate care for those impacted by child psychiatric and developmental disorders, irrespective of their life circumstances in Kochi.
• train psychiatrists, psychologists, and other healthcare professionals working in the field of child and adolescent mental health.
• conduct innovative research into the causes and treatment of child psychiatric and developmental disorders.

Our research focuses on the pathophysiology and treatment of child psychiatric and developmental disorders.

Research areas include neurophysiological investigation of sensory difficulties in developmental disorders, perinatal mental health difficulties, child maltreatment, youth suicide and life threatening conditions such as large-scale natural disaster.

We inform and educate the public to promote mental health awareness of children and their families.

Our work is dedicated to advancing the science and care of mental health for all children.
