Learning at the Institute

Several full-time and associate faculty members are in charge of education in Kochi University, within the Faculty of Science and Technology (Department of Global Environment and Disaster Prevention and Department of the Biological Sciences) and within the Faculty of Agriculture and Marine Science (Department of Marine Resource Science).
They teach lectures in specialized fields associated with drilling Earth science and conduct experiment classes using CMCR facilities. Also, fourth-year undergraduate at the university can work on their research project under the supervision of CMCR faculty members.
CMCR faculty members are also involved in graduate education in the Graduate School of Integrated Arts and Sciences (Science Program for master’s course and Applied Natural Sciences Program for doctoral course). Students can conduct their master’s or doctoral thesis research in one of the Center laboratories under the supervision of a CMCR faculty member. Educational Activities

The CMCR aims to educate and foster young researchers, undergraduate and graduate students from Japanese and overseas research institutions to focus on Earth-science drilling.

Core School

A major goal of the CMCR is to train the next generation of scientists with interests focused on marine core and related science studies. Sponsored by CMCR and the Japan Drilling Earth Science Consortium (J-DESC), several core-analysis schools lasting 3 or 4 days are held regularly to train young scientists and to promote IODP-related science: the Kochi Core School for Asian Young Scientists and the J-DESC Core Schools (Basic Core Analysis, Isotope Analysis, and Paleomagnetic Analysis courses). These well-established schools are attended by many students and early-career researchers.
For more information, please visit the J-DESC Core School webpage.

For high school students

CMCR lectures include experiments and analyses as part of cutting-edge earth and planetary sciences advanced research and development. Students from many high schools in Japan are welcome to attend.
