ABOUT KOCHI PREFECTURE
Kochi prefecture occupies the southern concave of the island of Shikoku. It faces the Pacific Ocean to the south against the backdrop of the Shikoku Mountain Range to the north. The area is blessed with a mild climate and four distinct seasons, as well as a scenic coastline and attractive local culture. In the Meiji period, Kochi prefecture was the cradle of liberty and people's rights which had a great part in the formation of modern Japan.

is blessed with ample nature and a free environment. It was established
in 1949 as a national university consisting of three faculties: the
Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the Faculty of Education and the Faculty
of Agriculture. Kochi Medical University was integrated into Kochi
University in October 2003, and Kochi University now consists of five
faculties: the Faculty of Humanities and Economics, the Faculty of
Education, the Faculty of Science, the Faculty of Agriculture, and the
Medical School. Kochi University also includes seven graduate courses,
eight general educational research facilities (including an
International Student Center), the Center of Advanced Marine Core
Research which is a nationwide joint-use facility, libraries and a
health service center.
In 2004, Kochi University was established as a national university
corporation. Our University respects the independence of our students,
and possesses a warm-hearted, generous attitude not found in other
universities. The University is continually growing with the development
of unique research and diverse educational activity.
OBJECTIVES

International student center
The International Student Office's main objectives are to teach Japanese and Japanese Culture, and to provide advisory services for international students concerning problems in their studies and daily life. The Center carries out surveys and research on these activities. The International Student Center was founded in April 2003 as a joint facility for university-wide education and research. The Center aims to promote cross-cultural interchange among international students and Japanese citizens in collaboration with other universities and colleges. It actively supports the internationalization and informatization of research and education within the University, and, as a section of the area's core university, the center supports the internationalization of the region. The center also provides information and advice for Japanese students who wish to study abroad at universities with which Kochi University has exchange agreements.
