Message

More than half my life has been spent abroad, in countries as culturally and geographically distinct as Iraq, Australia and, since 2000, Japan. These experiences shaped my outlook on life and character and encouraged me to take a cosmopolitan view of the world. The International Education Program offers an excellent opportunity for young adults to expand their horizons through studying foreign languages and cultures in Japan and overseas. Those embarking on the adventure of living and studying in another country will gain experiences that make an everlasting impression and contribute much to their personal and professional growth. Working with the students on this program is a great privilege for me as a teacher.

Message

I’m very fortunate to be part of a university program that has students from different cultural backgrounds. A university is a place where you are asked to think critically and generate new ideas. I’m looking forward to sharing interesting thoughts and perspectives with you in class.

Hiroshi Nino

Degrees and qualifications

Teaching

Political Economy of Japan, Global Issues and International Cooperation

Message

Before joining Kochi University in 2013, I worked for 28 years at the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) where I facilitated the planning and operation of the Japanese government’s economic and technical assistance programs to developing countries. I am especially interested in Central Asia and its transition to a market economy. In this world of interdependency, local issues are somehow linked with global ones. In my lectures we will explore Japan and developing countries and study these links. Let’s “Think globally, act locally!” and vice versa.
