Sakura Exchange Program in Science (Kuroshio Science) Makes a Courtesy Call to University President

On Tuesday, October 13, a total of 10 delegates, including researchers and graduate students who were invited from the Philippines, Malaysia and Taiwan as part of the international exchange support program Japan-Asia Youth Exchange Program in Science (Sakura Exchange Program in Science) administered by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) made a courtesy visit to Kochi University President Wakiguchi.

 

The Graduate school of Integrated Arts and Science, Kuroshio Science, Kochi University invited youths from Asia following the adoption of the Sakura Exchange Program in Science from Monday, October 12 to Monday, October 19. The program is designed to introduce the concept of “developing individuals who aim to create a sustainable society in the Kuroshio Current Area” to the participants and give them the opportunity to observe the university’s leading-edge marine research areas, including the analysis of various biotas on the coast of Tosa Bay, development of new classification methods for the Hermatypic corals that are representative organisms in the marine environment, development of the exploration methods of seafloor minerals and energy resources and make them deepen their interests in marine science technology through experiential learning.

 

During the courtesy visit, President Wakiguchi delivered the following welcome address: “It is our great pleasure and pride to welcome the researchers engaged in the studies related to the seas of Philippines and Taiwan in the Kuroshio Current area and let you gain first-hand experience of the leading-edge studies conducted by Kochi University. With this program as a start, I hope more students will choose to study at Kochi University and that future collaborative studies will be promoted.”


*The Sakura Exchange Program in Science administered by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) is designed to enhance exchanges between Asia and Japan of youths who will play a crucial role in the future field of science and technology through the close collaboration of industry-academia-government by facilitating short-term visits of competent Asian youths to Japan. This program aims at raising the interest of Asian youths toward leading Japanese science and technologies at Japanese universities, research institutions and private companies.
