JAYVEE ABLAÑA SACO(Pilipinas)

a 31 year old Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) student of the Graduate School of Kuroshio Science, Kochi University in Asakura Campus, under the supervision of Dr. Ichiro Mine. He is studying on the eco-physiological aspects of economically important seaweeds i.e., Monostroma sp., Porphyra sp., Ulva sp. and others; focusing on the photosynthesis and chloroplast.

Before going in Japan, he is a Senior Research Assistant in the Marine Science Institute, College of Science in the University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City, Philippines. He is working on a National Research and Development Program on Seaweed Farming of Eucheuma sp. and Kappaphycus sp. funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) thru the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCAARRD). He earned his Master of Science (MSc) in Marine Science degree with the same University with thesis entitled “Photosynthetic responses of macroalgae from Bolinao, Pangasinan, Philippines in relation to thallus morphology and diel periodicity.”

When he arrived in Kochi, we was mesmerized with the balance of nature and progress. He was able to appreciate the beauty of the environment, as well as, on the accessibility and practicality on living to a new place. He was able to immerse on the culture of Japan, thru joining study tours, cooking class, Nihongo class and others. But the most activity he loved the most, is running on various places in Kochi and just appreciating every bits of it.

The staffs and students of the Kochi University is always pleasant, has a ready smile to brighten your day, very helpful in most possible ways and very reliable, that is why, his stay here so far is like home away from home. Thank you very much for accommodating us and feeling like we belong to your family.
