As part of the Kochi University common education lecture "Environmental Studies of the Tosa Sea: Thinking from the Sea of Kashiwa Island," an online roundtable discussion (mini-symposium) via Zoom was open to the public.

In this roundtable discussion, Azusa Kojima, Executive Director of JEAN (Japan Environmental Action Network), a general incorporated association that organizes coastal cleanups throughout Japan and participates in an international coastal cleanup network, spoke about the problem of marine plastic litter, and Professor Koh Ikejima of the Agricultural Sciences Unit, Kochi University about the latest academic findings on marine microplastics. A panel discussion was also held with Mr. Masaru Kanda, Director of the NPO Kuroshio Jikkan Center, which has been engaged in marine education and environmental conservation activities on Kashiwa Island, Kochi Prefecture, for many years.

高知大学の共通教育講義「土佐の海の環境学：柏島の海から考える」の一環として、Zoomによるオンライン座談会（ミニシンポ）を一般公開しました。

　この座談会では、日本各地で海岸クリーンアップを組織し、国際的な海岸クリーンアップのネットワークにも参加している一般社団法人JEAN（Japan Environmental Action Network）の小島あずさ事務局長から海洋プラスチックごみの問題について、自然科学系農学部門の池島耕教授から海洋マイクロプラスチック（※）に関する最新の学術的な知見について、それぞれお話しいただきました。また、高知県柏島で長年海洋教育や環境保全活動を行っているNPO法人黒潮実感センターの神田優センター長も交えたパネルディスカッションを行い、海洋環境の保全について考えました。

（※）海洋マイクロプラスチック‥海に流れたプラスチックが、波や海流、太陽の紫外線等により細かく砕かれ、５mm以下まで小さくなったもの。生態系や生物、ひいては人体への影響が懸念されている。
