On December 14, a delegation of nine faculty members from National Taiwan University, including the president, chair of the Department of Geological Sciences, and deputy director of the Institute of Oceanography, paid a courtesy visit to the Marine Core Research Center and toured.

Taiwan University plans to open a core repository facility in 2023. The visit was made possible by a request from the head of the Department of Geological Sciences of Taiwan University, where Dr. Sano, Director of the Marine Core Research Center, served as a visiting professor in 2014.

President Katsutoshi Sakurai, Director Koichi Honke, Director Yuji Sano of the Marine Core Research Center, and Associate Professor Tomoyo Okumura attended the meeting and discussed international joint research between National Taiwan University and JAMSTEC, among other topics. At the Marine Core Research Center, Professor Minoru Ikehara gave an overview of the cold storage of core samples, and JAMSTEC staff explained core sample curation and advanced analytical equipment. After the visit, the participants had a lively exchange of views on international joint research on earth and planetary science focusing on ocean cores with faculty members of the Marine Core Research Center and staff members of JAMSTEC. This was the first time for National Taiwan University to visit the Marine Core Research Center, and it was a meaningful opportunity to contribute to the further development of future research activities.

　12月14日に、国立台湾大学の学長一行（学長、地質科学科長、海洋研究所副所長など教員９名）が本学を表敬訪問し、海洋コア総合研究センターを視察しました。

　台湾大学では、令和５年にコアレポジトリー施設の開設を予定しています。今回の視察は、佐野海洋コア総合研究センター長が2014年度に台湾大学地質科学科で客員教授を務めていたことから、地質学科長による視察希望の要請があって実現したものです。

　当日は、櫻井克年学長、本家孝一理事、佐野有司海洋コア総合研究センター長、奥村知世准教授が同席し、国立台湾大学と本学との国際共同研究等について懇談しました。海洋コア総合研究センターでは、池原実教授からコア試料の冷蔵保管庫の概要説明を行った後、JAMSTECのスタッフからコア試料のキュレーションや先端分析装置について解説しました。視察後は、海洋コア総合研究センターの教員やJAMSTECのスタッフらとともに、海洋コアを中心とした地球惑星科学に関する国際共同研究について活発な意見交換を行いました。国立台湾大学が海洋コア総合研究センターを視察するのは今回が初めてであり、今後の研究活動の更なる発展に資する有意義な機会となりました（リンク）。
