Turtle-ism

Turtle-ism

Our main activity is conducting surveys of sea turtle beaching and nesting from May to August. We walk along Kotogahama Beach in Geisei Village, looking for sea turtle tracks and surveying the number of eggs laid.We also conduct morning surveys along the Kochi coast in collaboration with the Sea Turtle Research Laboratory in Usa. In addition to our surveys, we conduct research every year and present our findings at academic conferences. Since the surveys take place in the summer, it can be hot and challenging, but finding a nest is incredibly rewarding and makes for a truly valuable experience! At the Kuroshio Festival, our school’s cultural festival, we create a mini-aquarium using fish we’ve caught ourselves to showcase the fish that live in Kochi. We also visit elementary schools and local events to give lectures and hold workshops about sea turtles. At our monthly club meetings, we create opportunities to deepen our knowledge of sea turtles and discuss event plans. Since members often gather for surveys and events, we’re a close-knit group where everyone gets along well, regardless of whether they’re upperclassmen or underclassmen!! We’re on X and Instagram (both @kochi_kameism), so if you’re even slightly interested, please feel free to reach out!
