[Important] (For Graduate School of Education Students) Regarding the Scholarship Repayment Waiver Program for Those Who Become Teachers
Starting in the 2024 academic year, a scholarship repayment exemption program will be established for graduate students who have received a Type 1 Scholarship from the Japan Student Services Organization (including the deferred tuition payment system), have passed a teacher certification examination, and meet the specified requirements.
This academic year, eligible applicants at this university are those who are scheduled to complete the Graduate School of Education (Specialization in Advanced Teaching Practice).
1. Eligibility Requirements
Applicants who, while enrolled in a graduate program, were recognized by the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) as having achieved particularly outstanding academic performance; who are currently enrolled in a graduate school of education; who have passed the teacher certification examination (*1); who are scheduled to be hired as full-time teachers starting in the academic year following their graduation from the graduate school of education (*2); and for whom it has been confirmed that they are currently employed as full-time teachers as of April 1 of the academic year following their graduation.
*1 Eligible school types
This includes not only recruitment for public school teachers but also recruitment for national and private schools, among others. The types of schools covered are as follows:
・Kindergartens, elementary schools, junior high schools, compulsory education schools, high schools, upper secondary schools, and special needs schools as defined in Article 1 of the School Education Act
・Integrated Childcare and Education Centers as defined in Article 2, Paragraph 7 of the Act on the Promotion of Comprehensive Provision of Education and Childcare for Preschool Children
(Note) This applies to candidates who take a unified entrance examination for both childcare workers and kindergarten teachers and, upon passing, may be assigned to work at a kindergarten or a certified child care center that integrates childcare and kindergarten education in the future.
※2
This includes individuals currently enrolled in a graduate program who have passed the teacher recruitment examination and are continuing their enrollment until graduation under a deferred appointment system or similar arrangement. If an individual receives a conditional offer of employment as a full-time teacher after graduating (as a graduate), they will not be eligible for the repayment exemption. Additionally, individuals on temporary appointments or part-time lecturers are not eligible.
2. Scholarships Eligible for Repayment Waiver
・Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) Type 1 Scholarship (including the deferred tuition payment system) received while enrolled in a master’s program
・Eligible applicants who meet the requirements will be granted a full waiver.
3. Application Procedures for Repayment Waivers
This program will be implemented under the "Loan Repayment Exemption Program for Outstanding Academic Achievement" administered by the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) for graduate students. Information on how to apply will be posted on the KULAS announcements page around December.
*Verification of eligibility for the repayment exemption:
When applying, you must submit a letter of acceptance or similar document confirming your appointment as a teacher (or, for those whose appointment has been deferred due to enrollment in a graduate school of education, proof of passing the teacher certification exam).
*Submission of Proof of Employment, etc.
Candidates recommended for repayment exemption as prospective faculty members must submit proof of employment or an official appointment letter as of April 1 to the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) for verification purposes prior to the final decision on their repayment exemption.
