"The Ever-Evolving Technology of Plant Factories"

On Saturday, November 19, 2011, we will hold a public symposium titled "The Ever-Evolving Technology of Plant Factories" Faculty.

In recent years, global environmental issues, resource depletion, and food supply and demand challenges have reached a major turning point. In particular, following the major accident at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant—including the spread of radioactive materials—a shift in energy policy has been the subject of multifaceted debate, and there is a strong demand for safe and highly efficient energy systems.Against this backdrop, “plant factories” are viewed as a key pillar of industries that promote a circular economy for energy and food production, environmental conservation, and the sustainable use of resources (including water resources). Recommendations for the creation of regional community revitalization and food production systems centered on plant factories have been made in various reports, including a report by the Science Council of Japan (dated June 20) and the reconstruction plan for agriculture, forestry, and fisheries that outlines recovery efforts following the Great East Japan Earthquake. Therefore, we are holding this public symposium to engage in a broad discussion on energy, water, and plant production with a view to promoting and supporting the future development of plant factories.

There is no participation fee.
