The 3rd SUIJI Seminar on Tropical Agriculture 2013: Kochi Conference
Date:
SUIJI (Six University Initiative Japan Indonesia) is a consortium established in March 2011 with the aim of promoting agricultural development and the conservation of natural resources in tropical regions, and contributing to the resolution of global environmental issues, through the organic collaboration of educational and research centers at six universities: Gadjah Mada University, Bogor Agricultural University, and Hasanuddin University (Indonesia), as well as Ehime University, Kagawa University, and Kochi University.
The first seminar was held in Ehime, the second in Bogor, Indonesia, and for this third seminar, which will take place in Kochi, the presidents of three universities from Indonesia and three universities from Shikoku will gather to host the event.
In conjunction with the launch of full-scale service-learning programs in Shikoku—involving students from Indonesia and Japan in projects related to satoyama, the ocean, and food processing—this SUIJI seminar will explore the overarching theme of “How Should Universities Engage with Local Communities?” (Community Collaboration and Service-Learning). The event will feature a symposium, a President’s Forum, a Researchers’ Forum, and a Students’ Forum.
We also plan to sign a memorandum of understanding regarding the SUIJI Service-Learning Program at this event.
If you wish to attend the symposium and forum, please register by Monday, August 19.

We look forward to seeing many of you there.
