The 44th Kochi University Academia Seminar: Symposium V on Preparing for the Nankai Earthquake—“Considering Regional Revitalization and Disaster Prevention”

Date:

Kochi University aims to support and promote research, education, and community engagement related to disaster prevention and mitigation. As a regional hub, the university also seeks to contribute to the development of a safe, secure, and sustainable society and to the cultivation of human resources through activities both domestically and internationally.
At this symposium, we will examine the future of disaster prevention in Kochi Prefecture from both hardware and software perspectives, drawing on insights from science and technology as well as disaster medicine, while addressing the urgent national issues of regional revitalization and disaster prevention and taking into account the lessons learned from the Great East Japan Earthquake.
In the first half of the symposium, we will present lectures on recovery and reconstruction challenges in the Great East Japan Earthquake-affected regions, as well as case studies from areas within Kochi Prefecture that have experienced severe seismic disasters. In the second half, representatives from industry, government, academia, and the general public will explain the current status of disaster prevention measures and the challenges that need to be addressed from their respective perspectives. We will then hold a panel discussion to explore the future of regional revitalization and disaster prevention.
We look forward to the participation of the general public, university students, high school students, and many others.
