Kuroshio Region Seminar / DC Seminar: "Population Mobility and Changes in Land Management in Mindanao, Philippines"

Date:

Kuroshio Science Program is pleased to announce the Kuroshio Region Seminar/DC Seminar titled “Population Migration and Changes in Land Management in Mindanao, Philippines,” featuring Faculty Atsuko Faculty of Economics, Kurume University, as the guest lecturer.

Dr. Hayama is an expert in forest resource management in Southeast Asia (particularly the Philippines). As part of his research on how economic development in Southeast Asia affects population and resource management in disadvantaged regions, he will be presenting a report on the current situation in Mindanao. (Language: Japanese)

With economic development, land in Japan’s mountainous and rural areas is beginning to be abandoned. In Taiwan, indigenous peoples continue to manage the land, while in South Korea, the buying, selling, and leasing of land are on the rise. What about the Philippines? After hearing Professor Hayama’s report, I would like to expand the discussion to provide an overview of trends in Southeast Asia.

If you're interested, please feel free to join us. We look forward to seeing many of you there.
