Kuroshio Science Program pleased to announce the Kuroshio Region Seminar/DC Seminar titled “Integration of the Humanities and Sciences and Human Resource Development: Why Engineering Education Is Necessary,” featuring Professor Hisashi Kurokura of Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences at Graduate School Tokyo as the guest lecturer.
Professor Hisashi Kurokura is engaged in research and education across a wide range of fields, from the cryopreservation of fish sperm to the promotion of fisheries in developing countries and reconstruction efforts following the Tohoku earthquake. Since the Graduate School champions the integration of the humanities and sciences, he has continued to explore how to advance this integration in university education.
[Lecture Overview] There is often a call to incorporate problem-based learning (PBL) and other task-oriented teaching methods into university education. However, without sufficient explanation regarding what these methods entail, what educational outcomes they aim to achieve, how they should be implemented, and why they are necessary, it is difficult to engage in a meaningful discussion about whether they should be adopted. I will share my experiences from actually implementing these methods in the classroom and discuss the results.
