Inspiration & Excitement in Science: Welcome to the University Lab! KAKENHI: "Exploring 'Life' Through Cattle: Let's Take a Close Look from Cells to Whole Organisms!"
Date:
Faculty of Agriculture and Marine Science will host the 2017 "Inspiration & Excitement in Science: Welcome to the University Lab" KAKENHI program, titled "Exploring 'Life' Through Cattle: Let's Take a Close Look from Cells to Whole Organisms!"
The purpose of this project is to disseminate and apply to society the research findings obtained through the Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research program (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science).
Have you ever taken the time to observe a cow closely? These days, our only contact with cows is through the “meat” sold in supermarkets, but this program focuses on the Tosa Akaushi—a rare breed of Japanese beef cattle unique to Kochi Prefecture. Participants will experience cutting-edge research related to the preservation and expansion of this breed, engage in hands-on cattle management training in the barn, and enjoy a meal featuring Tosa Akaushi beef. Through this program, we hope to help you gain an understanding of the various efforts behind the beef you casually consume every day.(Upon completion, participants will be awarded a “Future Doctorate” from Kochi University and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science.)
