The Future of Sewerage Systems from Kochi: 1st Symposium "Innovative Water Treatment Technologies for Sustainable Sewerage Systems"

Kochi University, in collaboration with Kochi Prefecture, is pleased to announce the symposium “The Future of Sewerage Systems: A Message from Kochi—1st Symposium: Innovative Water Treatment Technologies for Sustainable Sewerage Systems.” Please see below for details.
高知県は、人口減少が全国より１０年早く進行している県であり、財政状況も厳しく、また近い将来での南海トラフ地震の発生が予想されるなど、「課題先進県」といわれています。このような状況もあり、国民の基本的なインフラである下水道の普及率も全国ワースト３となっています。
しかし、逆転の発想で考えると、１０年後には現在の高知県と同様の厳しい社会状況が全国で生じると予想されることから、この厳しい状況にある高知県でも利用できるような「下水道新技術」を開発・実装できれば、将来の日本の下水処理のスタンダードになりうる、つまり下水道の未来を高知から発信し、高知県が「課題解決先進県」になりうると考えられます。
このような背景から、高知大学では農学部門の藤原拓教授を中心として、産官学で連携して、２つの下水処理新技術の開発・実装を行ってきました。
１）オキシデーションディッチにおける二点DO制御システム（中小規模の下水処理場向け）
前澤工業株式会社、高知大学、高知県、香南市、日本下水道事業団の共同開発
２）無曝気循環式水処理技術（大規模の下水処理場向け）
高知市・高知大学・日本下水道事業団・メタウォーター(株)の共同開発
高知県では、これに加えて須崎市において別グループの開発による産官学共同開発の新技術の開発・実装がなされ
3) Water Treatment Technology Adaptive to Water Flow Fluctuations Using the DHS System
Jointly developed by Sanki Kogyo Co., Ltd., Tohoku University, Kagawa National College of Technology, Kochi National College of Technology, JS, and the City of Susaki
As such, it is rare nationwide to find a prefecture where three new sewerage technologies have been put into practical use within the same prefecture over the past decade; we believe that such initiatives could serve as a model for the future, demonstrating how regional challenges can be resolved through collaboration among industry, government, and academia, including local universities.
