"Establishment of 4D Integrated Kuroshio Zone Resource Science": FY2017 Progress Report Meeting
Date:
The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) Special Expenses Project for the Creation of a 4-Dimensional Integrated Kuroshio Region Resource Science, which began in fiscal year 2016, will hold a progress report meeting for fiscal year 2017.
The defining feature of this project is its approach to understanding marine resources through four key axes: (1) coastal to offshore areas (first dimension), (2) the Kuroshio Current region (Northern Equatorial Ocean—main Kuroshio Current—extended Kuroshio Current) (second dimension), and (3) water depth (third dimension), while also incorporating (4) various time scales from the past to the present (fourth dimension).Among the 12 major policies outlined in the Basic Plan for the Ocean, we are focusing our research and educational efforts on four areas in which Kochi University excels: “Promotion of the Development and Utilization of Marine Resources,” “Conservation of the Marine Environment,” “Comprehensive Management of Coastal Areas,” and “Promotion of Public Understanding of the Ocean and Human Resource Development.” Please refer to the PDF below for details regarding the briefing session.
While our university has long supported faculty members in conducting specialized research centered on the “ocean,” the revision of the “Basic Plan for the Ocean” in 2013—based on the Basic Act on the Ocean—has highlighted the growing importance of “marine resource development” and “integrated ocean management.” Consequently, we have been advancing the “Creation of 4D Integrated Kuroshio Region Resource Science” project since fiscal year 2016.
