International Symposium: "The Evolution Toward Next-Generation Protected Horticulture Led by the Internet of Plants (IoP)"

On Saturday, March 16, 2019, we will host an international symposium titled "The Evolution Toward Next-Generation Controlled Environment Agriculture Led by the Internet of Plants (IoP)" at the Asakura Campus.
Kochi Prefecture has recently been selected for the Cabinet Office’s (FY2018 Local University and Regional Industry Revitalization Grant) industry-academia-government project titled “Evolution Toward ‘Next-Generation Protected Horticulture’ Led by ‘IoP (Internet of Plants)’” (hereinafter referred to as the “IoP Project”).
This project aims to realize the government’s “Society 5.0” vision in the agricultural sector andand to solidify the position of Kochi Prefecture’s protected horticulture—which boasts the highest horticultural productivity in Japan—by taking the lead nationwide in adopting and disseminating the “Next-Generation Protected Horticulture System,” which incorporates cutting-edge technology from the Netherlands. Through cutting-edge research such as “IoP (Internet of Plants),” which enables the visualization and utilization of physiological and growth data for diverse horticultural crops via AI, the project aims to dramatically evolve this system into a “Next-Generation” model.
To disseminate and share the research content and findings of the IoP Project with organizations involved in agricultural and industrial promotion in Kochi Prefecture, we will host the "IoP International Symposium." Our goal is to foster understanding of the IoP Project and create momentum for the evolution toward "Next-Generation" protected horticulture. We aim for the sector to achieve dramatic growth as a sustainable industry where young people can realize their dreams and aspirations, and to share these efforts with the world from Kochi Prefecture.
