Medical SchoolMedical School Hospital Radiation Medicine Center: Ceremony Marking the Strengthening of the Center and Its Second Anniversary

In April 2017, Medical School Hospital Phototherapy Medical School HospitalMedical SchoolMedical School Hospital. As Japan’s first advanced and innovative organization based on full-scale phototherapy technology, it is actively engaged not only in clinical care but also in technological development and educational outreach.
In September of that year, the natural amino acid 5-aminolevulinic acid became eligible for health insurance coverage for bladder cancer and was launched under the brand name Araglio (manufactured and marketed by SBI Pharma; distributed by Chugai Pharmaceutical). It is currently used at approximately 300 medical institutions in Japan. Furthermore, following the bladder cancer trials, clinical trials for gastric cancer and peritoneal dissemination are also underway at multiple institutions, including Kochi University.
Furthermore, as our center marks its second anniversary, we have implemented the following measures to further strengthen our organizational structure.
| ① In August 2018, Kunio Awazu (Professor, Graduate School ), Toru Tanaka (Executive Vice President and CTO, SBI Pharma Co., Ltd.; Specially Appointed Professor, Keio University), and Shunichiro Ogura (Associate Professor, School of Life Science and Technology, Tokyo Institute of Technology) were appointed as visiting professors (Advisor to the Center for Photon Therapy) ② In October 2018, Sawa Nakayama was appointed as a Specially Appointed Assistant Professor (Full-time Researcher at the Center for Photon Therapy) ③ In December 2018, collaboration began with the Optical Life Control Group at the Life Science and Technology Open Innovation Hub, School of Life Science and Technology, Tokyo Institute of Technology |
To commemorate the Center’s second anniversary, we will hold a commemorative ceremony on the following date, featuring an introduction to our new organizational structure and a special lecture by Professor Hideya Yuasa of the School of Life Science and Technology at Tokyo Institute of Technology.
