10th Intensive Course (Home-Based Cancer Care and Palliative Care) Seminar: "Advance Care Planning (ACP) – Experience ACP for Yourself Through the 'What If?' Game"

Date:

Every year, Kochi University holds an intensive seminar (Home Cancer Care and Palliative Care) aimed at healthcare professionals involved in cancer care in the local community. The goal is to foster professionals capable of understanding and utilizing home-based medical care from the perspectives of cancer treatment, palliative care, and elderly care, thereby enabling multidisciplinary collaboration to provide seamless, community-based medical care.
The theme of this seminar is “Advance Care Planning (Life Planning) – Experience ACP for Yourself with the ‘What If?’ Game.” Participants will engage in multidisciplinary discussions on advance care planning from various perspectives: “What if it were me?”, “What if it were my family?”, and “What if I were a caregiver?”Advance Care Planning (ACP) is a process in which individuals think in advance about the medical care and support they desire during the final stages of life, engage in repeated discussions with their healthcare and support teams, and share these plans.

Last year, we held a seminar on the theme of “Coordination Between Medical and Long-Term Care Services,” where we explored specific ways to improve collaboration between healthcare providers and caregivers involved in patient care. This year, under the title “Advance Care Planning (ACP),” the event will feature a “What-If” simulation game to help participants experience ACP firsthand.
