Wood Utilization Symposium in Kochi: Past and Present of Wood in Civil Engineering—Initiatives Leveraging Abundant Forest Resources

On January 21, 2020, the "Wood Utilization Symposium in Kochi—Past and Present of Wood in Civil Engineering: Initiatives Leveraging Abundant Forest Resources," co-hosted Center for Disaster Prevention Promotion, will be held at the Kochi Kaikan.
Wood has long been used as a civil engineering material, and its applications continue to evolve as it incorporates the latest technologies of our time. Kochi University is conducting research aimed at the effective utilization of wood in the civil engineering field and is gathering the latest research findings and related information in collaboration with the Shikoku Civil Engineering and Wood Utilization Research Group, the Forestry and Forest Products Research Institute (FFPRI), and others.
With the cooperation of the Shikoku Branch of the Forestry and Forest Products Research Institute (FFPRI) and other organizations, this symposium aims to explore the past and present of timber’s use in civil engineering. By exchanging views on the current state and future prospects of timber utilization, we hope to serve as a catalyst for expanding timber use nationwide from “Kochi,” a region rich in forest resources.
