◆We are hosting the 7th Sukumo Bay University Public Online Roundtable (Mini-Symposium): "Building Self-Sustaining, Sustainable Coastal Communities: A Perspective from the Islands"

 We are pleased to announce that the Zoom online roundtable discussion (mini-symposium) titled “Building Self-Sustaining Sustainable Coastal Communities: A Perspective from the Islands,” held as part of Kochi University’s general education course “Environmental Studies of the Tosa Sea: Reflections from the Waters off Kashiwajima,” will be open to the public.

 In this roundtable discussion, Atsuko Kujimoto, Executive Editor-in-Chief of “ritokei,” will speak on the topic of “Building Satoumi and Island Communities on Remote Islands.” As the head of “ritokei,” she works to “pass on the treasures of the islands to future generations” by disseminating information about and supporting the regional development of more than 400 inhabited remote islands across Japan.In addition to Ms. Kujimoto, we will hold a panel discussion featuring Mr. Yu Kanda, Chairman of the Kuroshio Experience Center, who has long been engaged in marine education and environmental conservation activities on Kashiwajima Island in Kochi Prefecture, and Associate Professor Satoru Faculty of Regional Collaboration Kochi Faculty of Regional Collaboration. Together with local residents and students, we will explore sustainable Satoumi development and the conservation of the marine environment.
