*Update: February 26—The order of Mr. Hayashi’s and Mr. Doi’s presentations has been reversed.
1:35 PM – Lecture by Mr. Daisuke Doi
2:30 p.m. – Lecture by Mr. Kazuhiro Hayashi
Guest Lecturer:
Mr. Kazuhiro Hayashi (Director, Data Analysis Policy Office, National Institute of Science and Technology Policy, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology)
"The Trend Toward Open Science and the Transformation of Science and Society Driven by Generative AI and Data-Driven Science"
Mr. Daisuke Doi (Director, Academic Infrastructure Development Office, attached to the Counselor for Information, Research Promotion Bureau, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology)
"Trends in the Academic Information Distribution Infrastructure"
Purpose of the Event:
As we stand at the forefront of science, technology, and innovation, all universities and research institutions are now required to establish data policies. The Sixth Basic Plan for Science, Technology, and Innovation sets a target of establishing these policies by 2025 and is accelerating the promotion of open science.
Open science serves two major purposes: transforming research activities and contributing to society. By enabling broader use of research papers and data and fostering the sharing of knowledge, it supports the advancement of science and technology. However, achieving this requires careful consideration of confidentiality, national interests, and national security. Trade secrets, data related to the commercialization of research results, and information regarding joint research agreements must be appropriately protected under an “open and closed” strategy.
At this symposium, we will discuss how open science is not merely about “making all information freely available,” but rather something that should be strategically promoted.
Furthermore, as the importance of managing and disseminating research data continues to grow, university library staff are expected to develop a thorough understanding of the research lifecycle; their role is also expected to undergo a significant transformation as they work alongside researchers to support the creation of knowledge.
Your knowledge and actions will shape the future of science and technology.
Would you like to join us in exploring new possibilities for open science, bringing together researchers, library staff, and others from various roles within the university?
