We have established the "Hiromi Sakiyama Collection" following the donation of approximately 1,300 books related to former Manchuria.

Release Date:

Kochi University has recently named a collection of approximately 1,300 books related to the former Manchukuo the “Hiromi Sakiyama Collection,” in honor of the donor, and will house it in the University’s Academic Information Infrastructure Library and other locations.
Ms. Hiromi Sakiyama, herself a repatriate from Manchuria, has devoted herself to collecting materials related to the “Manchukuo” regime—which were at risk of being lost after a long period following the war—and has also conducted interviews with repatriates, primarily within Kochi Prefecture. The “Hiromi Sakiyama Collection” represents the culmination of these efforts and the support of those who resonated with her work.
In the Humanities and Social Sciences Division, the principal investigator (Professor Hiroshi Yoshio) of one of the four research projects, “Regional Peace Studies,” began participating in Ms. Sakiyama’s interviews three years ago. To express our gratitude for this donation, we presented Ms. Sakiyama with a booklet titled “The Hiromi Sakiyama Collection (Catalogue).”
Ms. Sakiyama’s collection has long attracted attention, particularly among historians and others in the prefecture. The documentary portion of the collection has already been donated to the Kochi Prefectural Museum of History and Folklore, which houses numerous valuable items.
We hope that the books in the “Hiromi Sakiyama Collection” will be widely utilized as educational and research materials and become a new symbol of peace studies in Kochi Prefecture.
