The American Football Team (Marine Corps) won its first championship in the 2018 Chugoku-Shikoku College American Football League and competed in the All-Japan University Championship.

 On Sunday, October 21, 2018, the Chugoku-Shikoku College American Football League Championship (organized by the Chugoku-Shikoku American Football Federation) was held at Hiroshima Wide Area Park Stadium. This tournament also served as a qualifier for the All-Japan College American Football Championship, with the winning team from among the seven member universities advancing to the national tournament.Kochi University (Marine Corps) won the Chugoku-Shikoku League for the first time and secured a spot in the All-Japan University Championship.    

 In the championship game, we faced Ehime University. In the first half, both teams scored one touchdown each, making for a fiercely contested, high-quality match. In the second half, Kochi University racked up points and secured a 17–7 victory.Led by team captain Hiroki Ito (4th year, Faculty of Education), many players delivered impressive performances, including Kosuke Hotta (4th year, Faculty of Agriculture), Keisuke Shiba (4th year, Faculty of Humanities), Takumi Nishizaka (3rd year, Faculty of Agriculture, Forestry and Marine Sciences), and Tetsuya Kawakami (2nd year, Faculty of Education).  

 Although Kochi University was relegated to the second division three years ago, it returned to the first division in just one season and this year achieved its long-cherished goal of winning the league championship for the first time since the team’s founding. As a result, Kochi University represented the Chugoku and Shikoku regions and faced the Hokuriku representative at the All-Japan University Championship held at Kanazawa Municipal Stadium on Sunday, November 4.
