This event was initiated by the Kochi University Karate Club to foster the physical and mental discipline of its members. It is a grueling challenge involving walking approximately 90 km from Asakura in Kochi City to Cape Muroto through the night. It takes place every year over a Saturday and Sunday from late November to early December. This year marked the 58th edition of the event, which took place from Saturday, November 24, to Sunday, November 25. Participants included not only members of the karate club but also students, faculty and staff, as well as students from other universities and members of the general public. The event starts at 9:00 a.m., and participants are disqualified if they do not reach the finish line by 3:00 p.m. the following day; however, this year, approximately 70% of participants completed the course. Please take a look at the Muroto Kanpo, which has now become a true tradition at Kochi University.

Karate Club Comments
Thank you for participating in this year’s Muroto Kanpo. We were blessed with good weather on both days, and since it was relatively warm, about 70% of the participants successfully completed the course. To everyone who participated, thank you very much for your hard work. We hope this will be a fond memory for those who successfully completed the course, as well as for those who, though disappointed, had to withdraw partway through.
We plan to hold this traditional event again next year. We would like to report the following three issues that became apparent this year , so we kindly ask for your cooperation when participating next time. ① Some participants were walking on the roadway ⇒ This is extremely dangerous. Please be sure to walk on the sidewalk. ② Some participants are walking at night without wearing a sash ⇒ Please be sure to wear your sash. If you are carrying a backpack, attaching the sash to it will also improve your visibility at night. ③ There are unregistered participants ⇒ This is disruptive to the event. Please be sure to register before participating. We, the entire Karate Club, look forward to seeing you all at the next event!!! Hiroaki Takahashi, Captain, Kochi University Karate Club
