Announcement of the Start of the 379th Expedition of the International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) — Investigating the Dynamics of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet through Drilling at the Edge of the Amundsen Sea Ice Sheet

 Professor Masao Iwai of the Center for Integrated Marine Core Research at our university will participate in Expedition 379 of the International Ocean Discovery Program as a micro-paleontologist (diatoms).

 As part of the International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP), a research expedition aboard the U.S.-operated research vessel Joides Resolution will begin on January 18 to carry out the project titled “The History of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet in the Amundsen Sea: Verifying the West Antarctic Ice Sheet’s Response to Warming Based on Drilling Records from the Amundsen Sea Basin.”
