◆Rie Fujii (a third-year student in the Faculty of Education and a third-dan in kendo) of the Kendo Club will compete in the 59th All-Japan Women’s Kendo Championship (Empress’s Cup)

 The 59th All-Japan Women’s Kendo Championship, which had been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will be held on Sunday, March 14, 2021, in Nagano City, Nagano Prefecture. Representing Kochi University will be Rie Fujii (a third-year student in the Faculty of Education and a 3rd-dan kendo practitioner).

 The All-Japan Women's Kendo Championships is the most prestigious tournament in women's individual kendo, determining the top female kendo practitioner in Japan, and the winner is awarded the Empress's Cup.

 Fujii won the qualifying tournament for the All-Japan Women’s Kendo Championships (*) held in her home prefecture of Tottori, securing her spot in the main tournament. With training progress hampered by the COVID-19 pandemic, Fujii’s qualification for the All-Japan Women’s Kendo Championships was major news for the Kochi University Athletic Association.

 This marks the first time the kendo club, founded in 1952 (Showa 27), has competed in the All-Japan Women’s Kendo Championship (Empress’s Cup).

 The tournament will be broadcast on television according to the following schedule.
