A paper co-authored by Associate Professor Maiko Sakai of the Department of Education in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and Yui Abuta, a doctoral student in the Graduate School of Education at Kyoto University, received the Research Encouragement Award at the 47th Annual Conference of the Japanese Society for Phenomenology.
The purpose of this society is to promote the study and advancement of phenomenology; its activities include organizing academic conferences and publishing an annual report.
This paper, titled “Changes in ‘Capability’ Brought About by Caregivers’ ‘Way of Accompanying’: A Phenomenology of the Life of a Person with a Physical Disability,” published in the 41st Annual Report of the Phenomenology Society, received this award in recognition of the unique research methodology employed, which involved phenomenologically describing the experiences of a person with a disability—a co-author—through interviews and conducting the analysis in collaboration with that co-author.
