Graduate SchoolKuroshio Science ProgramIn the third year of the program, Sakura Morimitsu, a technical staff member at Marine Core Research Institute(MaCRI), received the Young Researchers’ Poster Award at the 33rd Annual Meeting of the Cellulose Society, held from Wednesday, July 7, Reiwa 8, to Friday, July 10, Reiwa 8, at the Fuchu no Mori Arts Theater (Fuchu City, Tokyo).

Mr. Morimitsu gave a poster presentation titled “Development of Highly Transparent Cellulose Materials with Submicron Structures via Alkaline Treatment and Sulfate Esterification.” Cellulose is the primary component of wood and is commonly used as a raw material for paper; however, in his research, Mr. Morimitsu succeeded in developing transparent cellulose materials through the chemical treatment of wood pulp. His work was highly regarded for its academic value, leading to his receipt of this award.
