Kochi Castle is the only castle in Japan still in possession of all its original Edo period architecture in the main citadel, and one of the main tourist attractions. Kochi castle is constructed in the center of the kochi city by Yamanouchi Kazutoyo, who took control of the province of Tosa in Edo period. Based on its significance in culture, history, and in their regions, Kochi castle was chosen for 100 Fine Castles of Japan. | |||||||

Katsurahama is one of the representative scenic places in Kochi prefecture. Katsurahama is the very impressive beach with the harmony of green pine, blue ocean, and small gravel of different colors of beach. A famous statue of “Sakamoto Ryoma” stands near the beach. Sakamoto was one of the architects of modern Japan. Katsurahama beach is in the "Katsurahama park", and there are dogfight center, aquarium, and the Sakamoto Ryoma memorial museum. |

He made a great contribution to Japan's rapid modernization which marked the end of 700 years of feudal government. |

The 124-km river's headwaters form near Ehime Prefecture's Mt. Ishizuchi, (Western Japan's highest peak at 1,982 m) and run through the mid-west of Kochi Prefecture, flowing into the Pacific Ocean. The Niyodogawa River is one of three major rivers in Shikoku, which also include Shimantogawa River and Yoshinogawa River. |

Muroto is located in the Southeast of Kochi. In ancient times, Muroto was submerged under the sea. The caves formed underwater and were later uplifted by successive earthquakes. “Geopark” does not simply mean a geological park, but includes the people, culture, and even industries that revolve around and work closely with the land formation and ecosystem of that area. In Muroto Geopark, you can understand the land formation process from a scenic road and lookout points on the terrace slopes. |
