Donations through Bequests

Kochi University introduces partner financial institutions to assist those who wish to bequeath a portion of their valuable assets to the university in the future (through a bequest) to support education, research, and social contribution activities. (Assets bequeathed to the university are tax-exempt and not subject to inheritance tax.)
If you are considering making a bequest, please consult the university’s Endowment Office (see “Contact Information” below) or contact one of the following partner financial institutions directly.

Kochi University has partnerships with Kochi Bank and Shikoku Bank. Each of these banks has partnerships with a trust bank and a trust company, respectively.

The Process for Donations Through Bequests

  1. Please contact our university’s endowment office. We will discuss the details of your bequest and, if you wish, introduce you to one of our partner financial institutions. (You are also welcome to contact these partner financial institutions directly.)
  2. Experts from financial institutions and their affiliated trust companies are available to assist with inquiries and consultations regarding the drafting of wills, including bequests.
  3. Trust companies and other entities will prepare a will using a testamentary trust. (Fees apply for the preparation, safekeeping, and execution of the will.)
  4. Trust companies and other institutions will hold the will in custody and periodically inquire about changes in assets, heirs, and other relevant matters.
  5. Upon receiving notification of your passing, the trust company or similar entity will execute your will.
  6. The trust company and other relevant parties will distribute the estate to the heirs and make a donation to the university.
  7. We will use this donation wisely in accordance with the donor’s wishes to support the university’s educational, research, and community service activities.
