10+1 Skills We Want You to Master Before Graduation

Our university has identified 10+1 competencies that we expect students to acquire by the time they graduate. These 10+1 competencies, which align with the talent development goals Faculty, are essential for students to achieve higher-quality learning outcomes and are also considered crucial for their success in society after graduation.

The 10 competencies are: (the "knowledge of specialized fields," "knowledge of human culture, society, and nature,"“logical thinking,” “problem-solving skills,” and “language and information literacy”), (the “expressive skills,” “communication skills,” and “collaborative skills” necessary for building relationships with others), and (the “self-discipline” and “ethical values” necessary for self-control and achieving good results).

Furthermore, the ability to effectively integrate and utilize these ten skills leads to higher-quality results (integration).

Furthermore, the ability to use these 10 competencies to engage with people and society and steer them in a better direction will serve as the foundation for your careers after graduation (engagement). In this way, the ability to fully utilize these 10 competencies to “find a way” through difficult challenges and situations is the +1 competency: “Integration and Engagement.”

The concept of “education through regional collaboration” championed by our university aims to cultivate individuals who can integrate the knowledge and skills acquired at the university to make a positive impact on society while confronting and solving real-world challenges.Throughout your four years at Kochi University, whether in regular classes, extracurricular activities, club activities, or volunteer work, we encourage you to live your student life with a conscious focus on “addressing challenges,” “interacting with others,” and “self-reflection” as appropriate to each situation, thereby acquiring the “10+1” competencies.

Transferable Skills

In today’s increasingly complex and sophisticated society, addressing social challenges requires not only the generation of knowledge within individual fields of expertise but also the collaboration of experts from different disciplines to pool their knowledge and create new insights. To make this possible, it is essential to acquire “transferable skills”—abilities that can be applied across various contexts.

Kochi University has defined the "10+1 Competencies"—comprising three domains—"Task-Oriented," "Interpersonal," and "Self-Awareness"—along with the ability to integrate them—as the competencies undergraduate students are expected to acquire by graduation. Through an educational program designed to foster the ability to contribute to society, the university aims to cultivate the foundational "transferable skills" necessary for success.

Doctoral CourseMaster's CourseProfessional Degree Course, Doctoral Course we build upon the foundation established in the undergraduate curriculum to provide education that meets the diploma policies of each major.
