As this program is implemented as part of the New System for Supporting Higher Education, which began in the 2020 academic year, applicants must meet the following four eligibility requirements.
① Asset Requirements
② Academic Requirements (Academic Standards for Japan Student Services Organization Grant-in-Aid Scholarships)
③ Requirements Regarding Nationality and Residence Status
④ Requirements Regarding the Period Prior to Enrollment in a University or Similar Institution

※For requirements regarding large families, etc., here or the Japan Student Services Organization website below.

*Please note that graduate students and international students are not eligible for this program.

[How to Apply]
As a general rule, eligibility for the large-family household requirement is determined by the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) through your My Number when you apply for a JASSO grant-type scholarship. Therefore , if you wish to apply, please apply for the JASSO grant-type scholarship (enrollment-based selection).
Application Deadline: Friday, April 24, 2026, by 5:00 PM
Please check here for details on the enrollment-based selection.
*Those who have already been selected for the JASSO Grant-in-Aid Scholarship do not need to reapply.
*Those who are currently receiving only the JASSO Loan-based Scholarship (Type 1 or Type 2) must apply for the JASSO Grant-in-Aid Scholarship.

[Important Notes]
Grant-based scholarships are provided to students from households with an annual income of less than approximately 6 million yen (as a guideline) and assets of less than 50 million yen . Students from large families with assets between 50 million yen and 300 million yen who do not meet the criteria listed above are eligible only for tuition and other fee reductions. Furthermore, even if it is clear that you will not receive a grant-type scholarship, you must still apply for it because the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) verifies eligibility for large family status.

Recipients of Type 1 Scholarships (interest-free)The monthly loan amount for the Type 1 Scholarship is subject to adjustment based on the amount of the grant-type scholarship received or the tuition reduction amount. This is referred to as concurrent benefit adjustment.
