The 11th International Symposium on Kuroshio Science

Since 2004, under the banner of the “Kuroshio Region,” our university Graduate School that transcends the traditional boundaries between the humanities and sciences. Faculty members from a variety of specialized fields—including “resources,” “environment,” and “health and medical sciences”—have collaborated to advance this integrated approach.
Since 2007, we have been holding an annual international conference to promote the sharing of research and educational information and joint research, primarily involving Kochi University, National Sun Yat-sen University (Taiwan), and Bicol University (Philippines), as well as Tanjung Pura University (Indonesia) and Universiti Sarawak (Malaysia).
The 11th International Symposium on Kuroshio Region Science will be held at Kochi University from July 24 to 26.We will welcome researchers and students from Japan, Taiwan, the Philippines, and Indonesia to discuss strategies for implementing cross-border education and research aimed at building a sustainable society in the Kuroshio Region. In addition, research presentations will be given on related topics such as the Kuroshio Region’s ecosystems, biodiversity, and the conservation and management of marine and forest resources.
