Center for Disaster Prevention Promotion: "The Past and Present of Wood in Civil Engineering: A Comparison of Technologies from the Edo Period and Today"

Center for Disaster Prevention Promotion, in collaboration with the Shikoku Civil Engineering and Timber Utilization Research Association, will host Center for Disaster Prevention Promotion titled “The Past and Present of Timber in Civil Engineering: A Comparison of Technologies from the Edo Period and Today.” Timber has long been used as a civil engineering material, and its applications have evolved over time as it has incorporated the latest technological advancements.
Kochi University is conducting research aimed at the effective utilization of wood in civil engineering. In collaboration with the Shikoku Civil Engineering and Wood Utilization Research Association and the Forestry and Forest Products Research Institute (FFPRI), among others, we are gathering the latest research findings and related information. With the cooperation of the Shikoku Branch of the Forestry and Forest Products Research Institute (FFPRI) and other organizations, this symposium will deepen our understanding of the evolution of wood utilization technologies in civil engineering through case studies from the Edo period and the present day, while also discussing the future prospects for the use of wood in civil engineering.
