The Student Support Center is pleased to announce the second installment of the Lecture Series on Promoting Understanding of Disabilities @ Kochi University.
With the ratification of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, the enforcement of the Act on the Elimination of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities, and the upcoming Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games, we are hearing the terms “disability” and “reasonable accommodation” more frequently.However, there is still much to be done and much to learn in order to promote the social participation of people with disabilities. Therefore, we have invited Dr. Takeo Kondo from the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology at the University of Tokyo—a leading researcher who studies and works to improve equal opportunities for people with and without disabilities across all life stages, from elementary education to employment—to give a lecture on what it specifically means to promote the social participation of people with disabilities.
The presentation will cover practical examples of individualized support, such as reasonable accommodations in educational and workplace settings utilizing various assistive devices and IT technologies. It will also include case studies on the development of accessible educational materials, employment support, and the implementation of new systems—such as the ultra-short-hour employment system—carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), local governments, and private companies. The content is designed to be relevant not only to faculty, staff, and students but also to representatives from private companies and local governments. Walk-ins are welcome, but seating is limited, so please register in advance.
