Release Date:

On Wednesday, April 23, 2025, a delegation led by Chen Zhixian, Director of the Nantou County Government Tourism Bureau, paid a visit to President Hiroyuki Uchida.

Nantou County is an inland county located in central Taiwan with a population of approximately 470,000. It is known for its tourism industry, which capitalizes on scenic attractions such as Sun Moon Lake—Taiwan’s largest freshwater lake—and Yushan, Taiwan’s highest peak, as well as for its agricultural production of tea and coffee. Our university maintains active exchanges with National Jinan University, the only national university in Nantou County, to contribute to regional revitalization in both Japan and Taiwan. This visit was made possible after the Nantou County government expressed a desire, through our university, to expand the exchange between the two universities into a broader exchange between the two prefectures.

On the day of the event, following a welcome address by President Uchida, Director Chen and Vice President Zeng of Guojian Yinan International University delivered remarks of appreciation, and the participants exchanged views on future exchanges.

During the discussion, topics such as how local universities can contribute to local governments were addressed. Drawing on his own experience of being deeply involved in the formulation of Kochi Prefecture’s industrial promotion plan from the planning stage, President Ujita emphasized that thorough dialogue between universities and local governments is essential.Representatives from Nantou County expressed their hope that, building on these insights, the two universities would first implement short-term exchange projects and develop collaborative initiatives—particularly in the tourism and agriculture sectors—where both prefectures and the universities work together as one.

That afternoon, the delegation visited the Kochi Prefectural Government Office and held talks there, making it a valuable opportunity to promote exchanges not only between the two universities but also between Nantou County and Kochi Prefecture.
