Kochi University is engaged in research aimed at contributing to global disaster prevention and mitigation, and the "gabion technology" led by Professor Hara has recently been featured as part of the overseas public relations activities of the Government Public Relations Office within the Cabinet Secretariat.

Professor Hara said, “Throughout its long history, Japan has accumulated wisdom and technology for disaster prevention and mitigation while facing natural disasters such as torrential rains and earthquakes. The ‘gabion technology’ we are working on has a long history and is an economical and environmentally friendly method for protecting riverbanks and slopes.In recent years, disasters have been increasing worldwide, and there are growing opportunities for the experience and civil engineering technologies cultivated in Japan to contribute to the safety of the international community. I would be delighted if this video serves as a catalyst for our research to contribute to disaster prevention and mitigation around the world.”
