◆ A new initiative has begun to facilitate clinical trials leading to cutting-edge medical care by leveraging the "Kochi-ke @ LINE" network: "Community Healthcare × Cutting-Edge Medical Care"—a network-based clinical trial initiative originating in Kochi

The Kochi University School of Medicine is combining "Kochi-ya @ Line"—a system that connects medical institutions and long-term care facilities throughout Kochi Prefecture via ICT(Ichiro Miyano, Associate Professor, Department of Public Health, Kochi University School of Medicine) and the “cutting-edge medical care” provided by the Kochi University Hospital (Center for Next-Generation Medical Innovation), the university has launched Japan’s first “community-based clinical trial model.” This initiative enables residents to access information on new treatments and medications from medical institutions near their homes and participate in clinical trials and research.
Specifically,
・Kochi-ke shares information about clinical trials with local healthcare professionals and patients via LINE
・Kochi-ya uses LINE to facilitate the recruitment of clinical trial participants and provide smooth support throughout the trial
・Establish a system that allows patients participating in clinical trials to continue their treatment with peace of mind in their local communities through online consultations and other means, without having to visit Kochi University Hospital every time
As a result, opportunities for residents to participate in clinical trials will increase significantly, transcending geographical limitations, and we expect that the benefits of new drugs and medical technologies will reach a wider audience. We will promote this “Regional Healthcare × Advanced Medical Care” initiative as the “Kochi Model” throughout Japan and globally.
