We aim to cultivate research and development professionals and highly specialized professionals in science and engineering who can bridge the gap between basic and applied sciences and engineering, and translate research findings into practical applications for society.

Introduction to the Doctoral Program in Applied Natural Sciences

The Department of Applied Natural Sciences cultivates research and development professionals (researchers at universities, research institutions, or companies) and highly specialized professionals in science and engineering (engineers at companies or public research institutes) who possess the advanced expertise, knowledge, and skills necessary to translate their research findings into innovation and societal implementation through interdisciplinary collaboration across the fields of basic science, applied science, and science and engineering.
This program consists of four fields: Mathematical, Physical, and Information Sciences; Biological Sciences; Chemical and Life Sciences Engineering; and Earth Environment and Disaster Prevention Engineering. However, to facilitate cross-disciplinary collaboration, it is organized as a single program that encompasses all of these fields.
