Graduate School of Integrated Arts and SciencesGraduate School consists of Master's Course ( Humanities and Social Sciences Program, Science and Technology Program, Medical Science Program, Nursing Science Program, Agriculture and Marine Science Program, Regional Collaboration Program, and Sports and Arts Initiatives Codevelopment Program ), Professional Degree Course ( Program for Advanced Professional Development in Teacher Education ), and Doctoral Course in Doctoral Course ( Applied Science Program, Medicine Program, and Kuroshio Science Program ). Master's Course underwent significant organizational reforms to deepen its organic collaboration with undergraduate education.In the 2020 academic year, Regional Collaboration Program the aim of cultivating highly skilled regional professionals through “regional collaboration.” Additionally, the former Department of Science was reorganized Science and Technology Program to further promote the development of highly specialized professionals excelling in research and development capabilities and problem-solving skills through the strengthening of the engineering field.Furthermore, to promote interdisciplinary education and research that comprehensively examines various phenomena in the fields of agriculture and marine science from a resource science perspective, Agriculture and Marine Science Program was established based on the Department of Agriculture. In the 2024 academic year, Sports and Arts Initiatives Codevelopment Program was newly established to foster highly specialized professionals capable of creating solutions to regional challenges in the fields of sports and arts and culture in collaboration with diverse stakeholders. Professional Degree Course, Program for Advanced Professional Development in Teacher EducationProfessional Degree Course, was reorganized Program for Advanced Professional Development in Teacher Education 2022 and expanded into a three-course system comprising the “School Management Course,” “Classroom Practice Course,” and Special Needs Education.”Meanwhile, Doctoral Course, the Marine Medicine Course was newly established Medicine Program in fiscal year 2020 to advance education and research that integrates marine research with medicine. Furthermore, in fiscal year 2022, Applied Science Program was reorganized to broaden the scope of education and research, enabling the conferral of both Doctor of Science and Doctor of Engineering degrees.
Kochi University promotes the development of human resources capable of contributing to both local and international communities, as well as the enrichment and advancement of academic study and research. In Japan, Graduate School are expected to play a central role in cultivating “knowledge professionals” to meet the societal changes anticipated around 2040. Faculty, Graduate School expected Graduate School individuals who have acquired the universal skills and literacy Faculty to an even higher standard, possess advanced specialized knowledge spanning multiple fields, and have developed the ability to identify problems, formulate and test hypotheses, as well as other transferable skills applicable in various contexts and the capacity to lead society.
To meet these demands, we hope that all of you who intend to study at this Graduate School will delve deeply into the intricacies of academia through the broad-ranging education and research offered by each department, and cultivate outstanding problem-solving skills that will lead to the creation of new knowledge.We have high hopes that you will conduct pioneering, innovative, and international research that contributes to the development of local culture and society as well as the global community. We also expect you to expand your sphere of activity from this Graduate School to support and transform your local communities, and to help solve global-level challenges that are fundamentally linked to local issues.

Transferable Skills
Kochi University has defined the "10+1 Competencies"—comprising three domains—"Task-Oriented," "Interpersonal," and "Self-Awareness"—along with the ability to integrate them—as the competencies undergraduate students are expected to acquire by graduation. Through an educational program designed to foster the ability to contribute to society, the university aims to cultivate the foundational "transferable skills" necessary for success.
Doctoral CourseMaster's CourseProfessional Degree Course, Doctoral Course we build upon the foundation established in the undergraduate curriculum to provide education that meets the diploma policies of each major. Through this approach, we cultivate and deepen students’ specialized knowledge and skills, as well as their “transferable skills.”
Kochi University Future Leaders of Marine Resources Development
Doctoral Course, Kochi University aims to cultivate Doctoral Course into “next-generation marine resource researchers” Doctoral Course possess an international and interdisciplinary perspective, are free-thinking, and capable of tackling challenging and interdisciplinary research. The university seeks to produce professionals who combine advanced expertise with high-level transferable skills, enabling them to play a central role in regional innovation across a wide range of fields.To this end, we will support Doctoral Course conducting marine-related research across a wide range of fields, with a focus on specialized areas such as marine life sciences, seabed resource science, materials science, coastal environmental science, health and medical sciences, and disaster prevention science.
