The “Project to Strengthen the Functions of Teacher Training Universities and Facultyby Utilizing the ‘Regional Teacher Candidate Quota’” promotes collaboration and cooperation between universities and boards of education to introduce the “Regional Teacher Candidate Quota” in university admissions, provide education to these students through courses and curricula tailored to regional challenges, and the introduction of special programs for high school students. The project aims to provide support for these efforts—which span the entire process from before university admission through to teacher recruitment—in order to continuously and stably train and secure high-quality teachers who meet the needs of local communities and schools. The subsidy period is scheduled to last three years.
[Initiative Name]
"Kochi Teacher Training Program" for Career Education in Kochi
[Program Overview]
Under a collaborative framework between Kochi University Faculty of Educationand the Kochi Prefectural Board of Education within the Kochi-ke Teacher Training Program Promotion Council, Faculty of Educationwe will train “Kochi-ke” teachers to lead “Kochi Career Education”—a program focused on the regional teacher candidate quota that cultivates individuals with a deep understanding of and attachment to Kochi Prefecture. Through this initiative, we aim to promote “career education that fosters understanding of and attachment to the region,” as outlined in the 4th Kochi Prefecture Basic Plan for the Promotion of Education.Specifically, we will help high school students form a concrete image of the teaching profession by hosting trial enrollment events and offering the course “Introduction to Education in Kochi Prefecture,” thereby encouraging them to apply for the “Kochi Prefecture Quota.” After enrollment, through courses such as “Kochi Career Education,” students will learn about the realities of Kochi’s educational settings and the current state of its industries, among other topics, while cultivating an understanding of and attachment to Kochi Prefecture and acquiring the principles and techniques of career education.Furthermore, through the “Public School Teaching Practicum,” students will develop a practical sense of the field. Building on the exchange of ideas during the “Roundtable Discussion with Instructional Supervisors from the Kochi Prefectural Board of Education” held after the practicum, they will proceed to the “Applied Practicum.” This series of teaching practicums will deepen their understanding of Kochi Prefecture’s education system, foster a strong sense of attachment to the prefecture, and enhance their motivation to become teachers in Kochi Prefecture.
