Research by Assoc. Prof. Yoshiro Nishio of the Multidisciplinary Science Division and collaborators was published in Progress in Earth and Planetary Science.

　The study found a decrease in groundwater Na/K ratios near the epicentral area several months before the 2018 Hokkaido Eastern Iburi earthquake and presented evidence supporting the possibility that carbon dioxide had been released into an aquifer before the earthquake.

　総合科学系複合領域科学部門の西尾嘉朗准教授らの研究グループによる論文が、Progress in Earth and Planetary Scienceに掲載されました。

　本研究では、2018年北海道胆振東部地震の数か月前から震源付近の地下水のNa/K比が低下していたことを示し、地震前に二酸化炭素が帯水層に放出されていた可能性を支持する成果として紹介されています。
