A paper by Ms. Mai Gotoda, Dr. Mifumi Seto, a doctoral graduate of the Kuroshio Science Program, Assoc. Prof. Motoki Higa, and collaborators received the Japanese Society of Vegetation Science Paper Award.

　The study clarified ecological traits of grassland plant species that decline more rapidly after abandonment of semi-natural grassland management. The findings are expected to contribute to conservation planning for grassland plants.

　理工学部卒業生の後藤田真衣さん、黒潮圏総合科学専攻博士課程修了生の瀨戸美文さん、比嘉基紀准教授らの論文が、植生学会の「植生学論文賞」を受賞しました。

　本研究では、半自然草地の管理放棄によって個体群がより早く消失する草原生植物の生態的特性を明らかにしました。草原生植物の保全計画の策定における活用が期待されます。
