In storage are ~400,000 marine cores (~250 km) either at room temperature or in reefers at +4°C and 80% humidity to prevent oxidation and drying.

Large paleomagnetic shielded room

Inside a room that contains various instruments for rock-magnetic and paleomagnetic studies and is one of the largest of its type in the world, the local Earth’'s magnetic field is reduced to ~1/500 of its natural value, enabling measurement of weakly magnetized samples.
