Notes
●Please make sure you write correctly for each item on the application form. We found there are many errors on an item of “Owners” of samples you may analyze.
For example,
The owner of sediment core samples obtained by IODP Chikyu is JAMSTEC.
The owners of sediment core samples obtained by IODP Joides Resolution, ODP Joides Resolution, DSDP Glomer Challenger are NSF.
●【Acknowledgement Statement】We kindly ask that MaCRI with assigned numbers is included in the acknowledgements of papers based on research carried out with support from the MaCRI’s Joint Usage/Research program.
The indication of MaCRI in your papers will have significant and crucial effects on the evaluation of MaCRI by MEXT. Without the indication, the papers could not be counted as achievements of the MaCRI’s Joint Usage/Research program.
●Research Results Report: Research results in a fixed format (Excel file) must be submitted to MaCRI. These may include academic papers, presentations at academic conferences, bachelor’s thesis, master’s thesis, or doctoral thesis. Please also provide with a copy of these research results. The author’s name(s), affiliation, paper title, journal volumes, and assigned number will be published in MaCRI’s official reports or its website.
●Even if you are a partner researcher collaborating with MaCRI faculty professors on research projects, you may apply for the Joint Usage/Research program if you wish to use MaCRI’s research equipment.
●We typically call for applicants twice a fiscal year. However, we established a new application category that allows applications throughout the year. This is only applicable when researchers need to use MaCRI’s facility due to the following urgent example reasons:
(1)You found that research instrument you planned to use was broken and it took some time to fix it.
(2)You cannot use research instruments under the emergency, such as earthquakes or other natural hazards.
(3)You need to analyze some core samples immediately for your research projects, approved to another research grant-in-aid or competitive funds, after you apply the Joint Usage/Research program.
(4)When there are other compelling reasons (should be related to the above three items).
●We kindly asked students who participat in the Joint Usage/Research Program to obtain insurance that covers bodily injury caused during educational and research activities, known as ‘Personal Accident Insurance for Students Pursuing Education and Research.’ Since FY2007, it has mandatory for all students participating the Joint Usage/Research Program to have insurance that provides indemnify against any damages to others’ properties resulting from their educational and research activities.
Kochi University and JAMSTEC collaborate to operate the Kochi Core Center. The Joint Usage/Research Program is implemented with significant support from JAMSTEC.
